Domino -> Sharepoint Conversion Tool

Since over the last 6 months or so I have been doing alot of development work migrating Domino Applications to .net I have also been looking at sharepoint. I think I am now at the stage where I can put together a domino -> sharepoint mapping tool and migrator. I am going to spend the next few weeks at work doing some development. So I will post something when I have some source code to share.

I have also finished the C# webdav server with SQL backend. It supports all of the common WebDAV methods and allows me to save , copy, rename, lock files and create folders from windows exploerer and MS Office, all of this with a MS SQL backend , not the filesystem.

The code is not at a stage where I can publish it here. But if you find this page and are interested in getting some code snippets or help with your implementation, then leave a comments.

I realised after writing the webdav server that MS Office does not support enough of webdav to make it useful compared to sharepoint. (i,e version control doesn't integrate properly). So I am now moving my approach from webdav=> sharepoint to leverage the integration.

Holy Crap ... I'm addicted to heroes.

So I got my new dvix duke box. I instantly downloaded all 23 episodes of heroes, and over the last 3 days my wife and I have watched 17 of them.. I seriously cannot get enough of this show.. I will talk later about how good the dukebox is but right now I have to go and watch more.. Only 5 to go until I have caught up with the US. I am going to go out on a limb and says this is the best tv series I have ever watched..

CTR - the dodgiest health test in the world

Recently I have had to re-submit a full health check for my latest adoption. It has been over 5 years since I did my last one and the adoption agency requires that you have a full medical check up every five years to stay on the register.

Part of the health check is a chest x-ray ( I am not going to go into the arguments against chest x-rays here but lets just say my doctor agrees that they are the worst idea ever) . So I went down to my local X-ray clinic and got a chest X-ray. The radiologists report said that I had cardiomegaly . Freaking out about this I checked the net and found that this meant that I had an enlarged heart ( this sounds bad ). The basic diagnosis for this is something called "Cardiothorasic Ratio"(CTR) which basic means that ratio of the width of your heart compared to the width of your chest. If it is over 50% then you are supposedly in trouble. So I start to panic , given that the usual diagnosis for cardiomegaly is something wrong with your heart valves or vascular system. So I ring me doctor to make an urgent appointment. The appointment goes something like this:

Me: Hi, yeah I got that chest x-ray you gave me the referral for. The report says I have cardiomegaly. What usually causes that.

Doc: Mmm. High blood pressure.. But you don't have that. Did you breathe in ??

Me: Breath in ?? What do you mean??

Doc: Well the CTR is a measurement of the width of your lungs compared to your heart. If you don't breathe in when you get an x-ray then its total rubbish.

Me: wtf? So this whole cardiomegaly thing is based on whether I bothered to breathe in when the x-ray was taken.

Doc: Yeah !! So did you breathe in ??

Me: No

Doc: Well you better get back to the x-ray place and do it again.

Me: AAAHHH!!!!

So if you every have to get a chest x-ray , make sure you breathe in until your blue in the face to save yourself alot of worry.

New Bendy Screen = Magazine on a stick

I always thought that it would be long before you were taking your memory stick to the video store instead of taking away dvds. ( I bought a 1Gb SD Card the other day for $A18 so it can't be far away). Well now it looks like we might be taking that same memory stick to the newsagency to get our magazines and newspapers, and then reading them on our nice new bendy screens.

Sth Korea's LG has developed the world's first A4-sized colour electronic-paper -- a paper-thin and bendable viewing panel.

The e-paper -- which measures 14.1 inches (35.9 centimetres) across its diagonal
and is just 300 micrometres (0.3 millimetres) thin -- can display up to 4,096
colours, the world's second largest liquid crystal display maker said in a
statement. It is designed to be energy-efficient, only using power when the
image changes on the display, it said. "This represents the next generation in
display technology," Chung In-Jae, chief technology officer and executive vice
president, said in the statement. The new display product's potential
applications "are incredible and will allow our customers to create new products
that are not only convenient to use but also save natural resources," he added.
LG Philips said it developed the world's first 10.1-inch flexible
black-and-white e-paper in October 2005 and a 14.1-inch follow-up -- which
matches the most common copy size -- in May 2006.

Divico Tvix C-2000u

Today I order one of these. I have wanted one for a while, since I saw it at one of my friends houses. He got his direct from korea, but I found out that Harvey Norman was a distributor so I got them to order one for me.

It is basically a usb drive with a bit of extra logic that allows it to plug directly into an AV device (tv, plasma, projector etc ). And as it uses a 120Gb-160GB 2.5" drive it is ultra portable. (About the size of a cigarette packet ). So you plug it into your pc, copy the divx/dvd files you want to watch and then take it to your ( or friends) tv/movie room and use it as if it was a set-top dvd box. You can also get a car adaptor for it so you can use it to run the movies in your car.

If your looking for something with more grunt they also have a wireless networkable dvd jukebox with hd-record ability. sweet !!

어린이 날

Today is korean children's day 어린이 날 ( R: oe-rin-ee nal) .

Basically on this day, all parents cooked delicious food for the kids or had a party with all the family or go on a picnic or something like that.

Usually , there would be presents for the kids and it is a holiday in korea. It was officially was adopted by the government in 1973, and became a public holiday in 1975.

Gecko feet robot.

Looks like robots are finally catching up with gravity defying lizards...

Researchers have created a robot that can run up a wall as smooth as glass
and onto the ceiling at a rate of six centimeters a second. The robot currently
uses a dry elastomer adhesive, but the research group is testing a new
geckolike, ultrasticky fiber on its feet that should make it up to five times
stickier.

Although if stickiness of the feet translate to speed then 5*6cm/s = 30cm/s, and I can tell you the geckos at my house can easily do 2m/s when a cat is chasing them.

I suggest they stick one of these in the room and see how fast it goes !

Toyota's new mini

It's called the Endo... Don't know much about it , but it looks a bit like the suzuki swift.. If it was cheap I'd buy it. Good for a little car to drive to work and/or to the train station.
